Who are you McPilchuck? Or did you see our names in the summit register?

The Rainy Lake trail probably gets frequent use by climbers looking to attain Preacher as it provides probably the most efficient route to the ridge. If folks miss it on the way in by going up the left side of the creek or by getting twisted around in the "Basin of Mystery" they usually end up stumbling into on the way down. smile.gif

The basin of mystery tagged this fool on the way in, that's for sure. But then I realized from compass and map where I was, and headed over to the lake. It's tricky for such a small place.

Man, I'm a victim too. By the time I realized where I needed to go it was late and I was drenched, so down to the parking lot I went.

Scott, If you want to climb Jumbo Mt I'd be interested. A fellow who I met at the top of Whitehorse lives about 1 mile from Jumbo. He has done Jumbo and could show us the way. Routefindind is a little tricky on that one. This guy has climbed Pugh in January and Whitehorse in February so he is your kind of guy.

I think "Pilar" did a trip report on WTA for Jumbo. Do I feel a cat nearby too?

Jumbo has toes: called Old Man Jumbo Toes which actually look like two breasts protruding from the mountain, to the right of his face just above the timber line. The best view of this is from the Three Fingers North Buttress, far to the right of Salish Peak. The other Piler

I had intended to go, but it got late and too far to drive from Snohomish Co., so I opted not to go. Sounds like it was a good one though...

As an FYI, the next North Face event is Feb 27th at 7:00, and is about Jeremy Wilson's Pacific Crest Trail hike.
