Thank you for reviving this and I couldn't agree more on visiting old bookstores in new places. Bike shops and bookstores, partly how I rate wherever I visit.
One of the more redeeming qualities of Port Angeles are the two outstanding book stores within walking distance of each other. Both are locally owned, part of a multi-generation downtown core that has survived a lot of change, and are unique enough from each other to warrant a visit to both.
Odyssey Books and Gifts
Port Book and News
Odyssey has a large used section as well as one of the best sections for children you'll ever find. Port has a magazine rack (yes!) with niche publications.
There are also several dining and imbibing options, all within the same walking distance, and there is free parking all over downtown. Plus a great bike shop

I just became aware of this site: bookshop .org
Not necessarily used books, but an association of independents. I linked to their page which explains how it works; a cool way to order something online and support the indie bookshop member of your choice, or indies in general that are registered with the site.

There is one on Queen Anne on top of the hill but nothing like Powells.

I just discovered this place in Pioneer Square: Arundel Books, which says something about how I avoid downtown these years, and/or have been cutting down on my book buying habit.

The boys and I often take "homeschool field trips" to Port Townsend and visit the book store on Water Street. I find it affordable and they are always welcoming to children.

I live walking distance from Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park. I recently cleaned out their Raymond Chandler, Woolrich, and Dashiell Hammett collections. Cleaned out their PG Wodehouse collection a long time ago. I'm weak.
