I found one type of tea that has enough caffeine to do the trick - the trick being initiation of peristaltic motion.
Assam

Royal National Lifeboat Institute RNLI tea. Loose pack. Sold at some tea shops. Not for evening use.

Wow, you are a person who loves their coffee and refuses to compromise even when backpacking! The 1/2 pound grinder goes into your pack. Bravo! It's good to find out about this grinder. Something we might consider on a backpack of up to 3 or 4 days.
My wife is the coffee drinker, but she's okay with the Starbucks Via for our backpack trips. That not only saves the weight of the grinder (which we probably would not bring ;-), but also weight of the ground beans themselves, which for her adds up as she uses about 4 T of ground beans every morning.
We do bring this on our car camps though: http://www.amazon.com/Zassenhaus-Coffee-Grinder-Havanna-041002/dp/B005HAYDOW/ref=sr_1_7?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1431636068&sr=1-7&keywords=Zassenhaus

Same here. Roast my own, use the same grinder, but I use an Aeropress for brewing. By the way, I've been buying my beans from Sweet Maria's, but just discovered Roastmaster.com and bought 10 lbs of their Ethiopia Sidamo Guji. Roasted a batch last night right to the second crack, and having a cup right now - it's wonderful!

Some more alternatives for on-trail instant coffee.
1 Voilà
Each box offers a variety of five unique, complex blends. The brews have rich aromas and fresh tastes, we found, with nothing thin or instant-y about them. $20 for five servings, voila.coffee
2 Mount Hagen
Made with organic and fair-trade beans, this instant is robust yet smooth. There’s a caffeine-free version for those who just like the taste. $10 for 25 servings. mounthagen.de
3 Alpine Start
A smooth, easy-to-drink cup of java. We found this Boulder, Colo., company’s brew less complex than others, but it still has a nice morning kick. $9 for eight packets, alpinestartfoods.com

Tried Laird's Instafuel. Not bad but a little sweet for my taste. Also includes coconut creamer.

There are at least two parallel coffee threads active rn in the forum. Maybe these can be consolidated (sorry for being high-maintenance)
