Do you just make the recipe on the side of the cocoa can, or do you have something that is hot?
Here is one in today's Seattle PI
Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

That one looks good. My favorite is the individual packet made by Land O Lakes (??) -- raspberry hot chocolate. Most excellent stuff.

For me, hot chocolate requires a red chili pepper and a dash of cinnamon..
I love the smell of deet in the morning.
The smell, you know that deet smell, the whole mountain.
Smelled like... victory.

I happen to like a good cocoa powder (I like Rapunzel, myself), vanilla almond milk (can't have dairy, and soy provides a slightly off taste, imho), a little agave to sweeten, and some mint extract.
NOM! (well, SLURP!, I suppose. )

nuclear_eggset, I'll have to try that! I've tried different brands of soy milk, and even though I like them with cereal they just don't taste good with cocoa. It's very annoying this time of year.

I make my own almond milk every week. It's pretty easy to make.

The best hot chocolate has a shot of Rumpleminz in it.

Hot milk with a packet of Swiss Miss and a liberal shot of peppermint schnapps. mmmmmm.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Rumplemintz is the preferable version. (My prescription meds say no... :/ )

My friend Craig and I always enjoyed a shot (or three) of Southern Comfort in our hot chocolate. I remember his sister wondering why we were so happy one night many years ago.

ditto.
now THAT is hot chocolate.
And of course the Cinnomon MUST be Penzey's Vietnamese Cinnamon.
Which I buy in quarter pound bags.
Trader Joes organic cocoa powder is a good base. I will use Nestles cocoa powder only if I have to. I avoid the "hot chocolate" mixes.
A dash of real vanilla extract is pretty good too.

If you are out snowshoeing, and reach you destination and take a break, so that you really need hot chocolate, then the best thing to add to it is Kahlua. Caffeine for stimulation, sugar for energy, and a moderate amount of alcohol. A touch of vodka can also be added if you are not snowshoeing.
I like to make my hot chocolate from scratch. I heat up 1% milk, then add cocoa powder and sugar. I find that pre-made mixes are too sweet, especially if Kahlua is added. When backpacking, and weight is an issue, I bring the standard packets of mix, then bring some extra cocoa powder in a baggie. By adding extra cocoa, then using less mix, in essence I have reduced the sugar ratio. This trick also works with powdered ice tea mix: just add some plain powdered tea to make the mix stronger, then use less, so less sugar is used.
