How about a jaunt up to little and big Greider lakes this Sunday? The trail starts out at 1,500 ft, and tops out at 3,000. Suggested meeting time at the trail head is 10 am, but I don't mind starting earlier if others want to.

up.gif up.gif I've sent PMs to the "members" of the Trash Pickers, and selected other folks who might be interested. I suggest bringing a trash bag and a pack with some extra room, in case we find any litter. The map shows a side trail going up to what looks like a view spot or meadow on the ridge of land west of Big Greider, perhaps 400 vertical feet. That might make a nice leg stretcher after lounging at big Grieder for a while. hmmm.gif

Turn North at Startup, drive around lake, look for swamp? Bring trash bag and umbrella.

C'mon, folks, good hike, let's go! So far it's just me and Hulk, with another "maybe". Looks like we're meeting up at Sultan bakery at 9 am, for a dose of pure deliciousness, a Sultan bakery breakfast sandwich made with fresh-baked bread, eggs, breakfast meat of your choice, cheese of your choice, and condiments. Yum! Worth the trip just for that. Bring a friend, because their sandwiches are big enough to share.

You posted the last trip report to the lakes, a year and a half ago. up.gif Looking back through the TR's was interesting. The spring ones gave such varying snow levels, one year lots of snow in mid-June, another year no snow at all in mid-May. People doing the hike in January one year, March another.

We picked up a whole bag of garbage, with everyone chipping in, even Daisy, who retrieved many cans from dense brush. Hulk and I didn't go to Greider lakes, we only met kite at the GL trail head on the way out. We opted instead to go to the collapsed guard station and see the grove of old-growth trees, due to the rain and the belief that the lakes would be all fogged in. We will be going back soon, on a nicer day, to see the lakes. If you go, don't do like all of us did and park at the gated road. Turn left into site 3 and park in the rock-bordered lot to the right. Plenty of parking, so no need to jam your cars onto the soft shoulder at the road gate, and risk a ticket.

Too bad you didn't make it to the lakes. What's the scoop on the N. Frk road? Heard it was all dug up. Was the beaver pond still there? Also, the last rec site #5 at the overlook. Did they only pull the bathroom or dig it all up?

You call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye......Eagles

North fork road is only dug up to the beaver pond...the pond is still there, although the dam closest to the river is washed out. The bathroom is still there at site #5. But it does look like there digging up the rec site.
