12 inches of snow over the last week has had some time to consolidate making good conditions for a snowshoe to Kaleetan. Denny Creek trail head to Melakwa Lake. Around East side of upper Melakwa. Ascended the 2nd from Northern most couloir off East side of Kaleetan. Gulley snow was good until the last 60 feet which were rotten and undercut. Last 12 feet ice with overhanging marshmallow looking cornice.
After summiting, we decided on an alternate way out up and around point 57XX. That section was quite slow with trail breaking through steep powder. Would have been a good trip on skis and we did see previous tracks almost to the summit.
Nice trip. I've done the same route in summer and it was quite a long day including a swim in the lake. I guess you skipped the swim part. How much time did you take?
