Yes! Nice TR. As you know, I'm a big proponent of yours, and your recovery from double knee surgery is remarkable. 20 mile day trips, 3500'+ gain in a day.. very cool to see. up.gif

You rock girl! No way a wus. I run into so many people that have "knee" problems or other such issues and give up on all activities. Esmerelda is a nice trip and after a day riding the Suiattle...

Good to see you going for it Pib! By any chance do you have a photo towards Gallagher Head Lake?

Wow! I'm so impressed. You are not a wuss. Thanks for the TR, I was wondering about that area today, if there was still snow and if there were flowers. I appreciate the report.

I know what you mean about the trail lower down -- I was on it a while back to do Koppen and DeRoux. Nice work getting to the high point on Esmerelda. But I'm doing these peaks in the opposite order. I've done the West peak but I keep eyeing the East ones. I've considered scrambling right up the rocky ridge from the TH when the snow goes away, or even doing a loop that includes both. How did you do East Esmerelda?

Gallagher Head Lake can be seen from the far west edge of the summit. We did not venture over there. Here is a shot of the lake from 2005. There is significantly more snow now than then. Add 3 or 4 feet of snow to the lake photo.

Nice PiB! We were on Fortune that day. I was wondering if anyone was up on Esmeralda, it was such fun to ski off the side towards Fortune last year. Keep up the good work! B)

Mmmmm, backcountry...

The first 1.25 miles of trail is in serious need of TLC once the low snow melts out. Lots and lots of trees down and lots of water running across and down the trail.
I hope a trail crew is assigned to this as significant trail maintenance was done last October. I was there just afterwards. It looked like the trail had been plowed out with some sort of mini bulldozer all the way to the junction and beyond on the trail over to the middle fork and up to Koppen Mountain. The work included some blasting. I picked up one of the signs . . .
