Agreed! It's spectacular in vertical format.
(But I know what you mean about not knowing what would look good vertical for the calendar.)

I usually go for the alpine vistas, but I've been enjoying this one most:

it's so painterly greg .. how'd you do that?
i will always have much respect for this crossing now .. esp knowing what to expect in early season ... ours was a deep (in places) yet gentle ford in late aug a few years ago ..

this day wasn't esp exciting for me personally .. as we were just sitting around watching and filming instead of doing ... but the moment was memorable and this image is probably one of my all time faves
splitboarders kyle miller and jake hase were climbing up the fly couloir on lane peak ... and just as jake tops out .. the clouds suddenly open up and the sun rays burst forth ..

The Lofoten Islands are spectacular in the summertime, but oh do they also hold their own in the winter.
day 4 - svolvaer - sailing into weather
This past year I quite liked Montreal, the North Cascades, Iceland and Alaska... but Norway? wow. Holy wow. |
Excellent photo -- captures the mood of that area (and its changing quickly weather) very well. I was up in Lofoten this year, too -- when my bank account recovers from my excessive weekend trips, I'll definitely be sure to re-visit.

Incredible. I'm not a great skier but was finally able to appreciate how much control great skiers have when I "skied" (fell down) the Alps two weeks ago. That picture sums up the emotions I'd have perfectly. I'm waxing a bit philosophical here, but "Love the shot" seemed too flaky.

Thanks, she is adorable, and a great little hiker too. On the day of the picture she rode in the car for an hour and a half, got packed up Cascade pass, and then the long car ride home. Besides nap breaks she laughed the whole day and that is at nine months old

Some of you may know that I spent six months in Germany. Since August 12, I've been to the Swiss Alps a total of five times (three to Zermatt and two to the Bernese Oberland). It's been one helluva time, but not just because of the Swiss Alps... I've absolutely loved Europe.
This picture, though it's hardly a "moving" picture, for me is quite emotive... there's no obvious human subject, which stands in stark contrast to the fun I've had with friends during these six months. This picture was taken less than 24 hours before my flight out of Stuttgart -- and when seeing it I'll probably always remember how awesome this experience has been.
Let's see if I still feel this way about this photo (versus other ones I would have put here) in a year.

I feel like I did a lot this year and took literally thousands of pictures. However there is one that I continually go back to. This is Skogafoss Falls from my trip to Iceland back in April
