butterfly basking in a light beam, Madre de Dios Peru
I think this is my best photo of the trip. A lucky moment in the jungle. The shaft of light attracted the butterfly to bask. This was a fairly common type butterfly of moderate size I think, my best shot of 2011

A fine contemplative moment. Dramatic lighting.

November twilight shot; dark enough for stars and just enough light for snow detail.

The strongest compliment I can pay any individual photograph is the unbridled jealously that I feel when I look at it and wish that I had been the one to capture it. This photo is squarely in that category.

I picked this because it's a nice composition but because it also represents how easy it is to sample northwest mountain glory. Drive to 5,400' and take a relatively simple hike/ski/snowshoe with the backdrop of the Nisqually Glacier. We live in Paradise! (no pun intended - honestly)
