I had an extraordinary encounter with a flock of seven grouse in Montana. The second day I visited them, they let me sit nearby while they went about their business. A couple came up to me and stopped about 8 feet away. I was lucky to experience that.

Pretty cool experience. Maybe the fact that they were on snow made them less skittery. In October 2021 we came across a family of ten White-tailed Ptarmigan in mid-color phase although there was not yet snow. We stayed about the same distance - 8 feet or so. I was pleased so many chicks had survived to that point; they were just about as large as Mom. My lens was a zoom to only 80mm.

It is the bottom of the arm of a Inukshuk from the 2010 Olympics at the top of Seventh Heaven.

All you ever wanted to know about "inuksuit". I learned something new today. Some pull quotes from the article: Inuksuk (also spelled inukshuk, plural inuksuit) is a figure made of piled stones or boulders constructed to communicate with humans throughout the Arctic. Traditionally constructed by the Inuit, inuksuit are integral to Inuit culture and are often intertwined with representations of Canada and the North. ... Inuksuit are placed throughout the Arctic landscape acting as "helpers " to the Inuit. Among their many practical functions, they are used as hunting and navigational aids, coordination points and message centres (e.g., they might indicate where food was stored). Fascinating. ~z

I almost never use long shutter speeds with water (not a white blob fan) but the floating ice made nice patterns. Off 20 near Newhalem Sunday morning.

I found that photo on a FB site called "The Blend of Beauty"....here's another, kind of different, but so colorful and vivid.

I'm am right there with you on the "white blob" water thing, but your shot is cool.
