A gorgeous, albeit chilly and windy, start to the Memorial Day weekend (in Dolly Sods, West Virginia).

A lucky shot taken from home during a thunderstorm approx May 19th Not sure if you can zoom in on the pic here but there are a couple small bolts in the bright white of the clouds and I THINK there might be one or two huge bolts obscured by the trees in the lower left.

I have no idea how this turned out. This was taken from a game camera 2 weeks ago in my neighborhood. Its grainy because they were moving across the screen.

The largest cedar stump I have ever seen, maybe 10' around...up at the end of Coal creek road.
My son is on the right, and you can just see me on his left, the green leprechaun.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

A downy woodpecker at its home for the spring. It had chicks inside, which I heard twittering but didn't see. In the first picture it was actually feeding them; it would stick its head inside to give them insects that it had caught.

Here's maybe the biggest stump I've ever seen; I ran into it on the west side of Mt. Anderson on the Pacific Northwest Trail a few years back:
That's an oversized cap for a big head too! So many fallen giants like this in Washington; it's like living in the ruins of a more ancient, greater world. Location: 48.63569, -122.28649
