I have a black tnf horizon cap which has been great - it doesn't absorb water and it keeps its shape. However, I feel like a walking billboard with a big white tnf logo on the front of my hat. It probably scares the wildlife too wink.gif So have you ever blacked out your north face logos? I'm not sure how well the white nylon thread would absorb/hold color?

I don't own any TNF clothing so not an issue for me, but I'd think a Sharpie would work great for what you want to do.

Sharpies don't work well on nylon thread. The color doesn't penetrate deeply enough and it has a weird purple hue. Also, whenever the garment is cleaned the color wears off so you're forced to reapply it....

Try going to a fabric or craft store and buying a black solvent based paint stick. It should last longer than a sharpie andnot discolour.

I take a sharpie to most of my labels. See Naomi Klein, No Logo

If you can't stand the heat.... lol.gif You can't see it when you are wearing it. If it works, what the heck. I've though of changing my name to Oscar Roberts or the like, so my Outdoor Research stuff will magically turn into monogrammed custom gear.

Not to North Face (since I don't have any such items), but to Mountain Hardware and others. I don't mind reapplying the Sharpie after it wears off.

I don't have any North Face stuff, so I can't comment specifically on that. I started buying cashmere sweaters at the thrift shop for midlayers. Found them to be very soft and comfortable, so sometimes I wear them at home or in the garden, and often without a tee-shirt on underneath. The labels are scratchy, so I cut them out with a razor blade. It's easy, I just sever a few threads and they come right out. Perhaps you could remove the logo the same way...?

We just say we are from the Peoples Republic of Oregon and they require all residents to identify themselves for state park discounts. wink.gif

Logos on much outdoor gear is embroidered or silk screen (or modern equivalent).

On my last MSR snowshoes I could just peel off the sticker but the logo is riveted on my new MSR snow shoes so I covered it with duct tape. I don't want to stare at an MSR logo while I am snowshoeing. But I'm not sure how to remove the logo without damaging the shoe. Bright orange duct tape to the rescue.

But embroidered logos are just a lot of thread. A little more time consuming than removing a tag from a sweater, but probably not that much, and you'd only have to do it once. Silk screens, I have no advice for. Personally, I just leave my stuff as is. I don't have to see the logos while I'm wearing it, usually.

I managed to remove most of the lettering on my new car. If you use dental floss, you can get it between the glued-on plastic lettering and the painted body. Comes off cleanly.
