Several comments about current trail conditions:
First, I was again struck, gobsmacked really, by the immense amount of deadfall cutting that was done by John Scurlock, Dave Tucker, Dave Adams, and Don Goodman. These guys are some tough dudes.
Second, the late summer deluges that twice closed SR 20 did quite a number on the section of trail through the brushy avalanche swaths shortly upstream of the Gold Hill mine. These photos don't do the scene justice, but do provide some sense of the situation.

Third, I was impressed by the machete work done by Dave Creeden to brush out the trail through the avalanche swaths.

Yup - in particular, the new chimney is to be reinstalled and guyed down in the near future, but the timing is uncertain.
The new Chimney is in the lower left quadrant of the photo.
There are various pending random tasks as well.
I also think a proper pooper would be super.

My understanding is that for now and the near future, a small group will hike in and finish up the work to be done this year. I think that if you correspond with John Scurlock at the email address below, he will keep you in the loop on future plans.
My suspicion is that the most helpful immediate thing folks can do is to donate a few bucks to help cover the higher-than-expected costs associated with this project. Helicopter assistance and construction material costs are way steep these days. The beer ain't cheep either.
I'm going to donate another $50 - anyone elsoe who wants to throw in should go to Steph Abegg's link below.

Hey, Karl, good to see you made it back safely. I posted a short report earlier but my house was hit by a direct lightning strike just as I started to unload pictures. Destroyed my modem and one computer - glad I have another!
Great work on Mebee! Loved seeing your pictures of progress the day after I left. Thanks again for the night light. Any yellowjacket stings on the way out?

Holy smokes Ed.
I'm glad I scooted out quick-like once the work was done Sunday morning. Thanks to a lot of hiking this summer, supplemented by a fair amount of hill running near my house, I actually managed to keep up with Mike Liu and Dave Creeden, and those guys get where they're going speedy fast.
I hope you can post those pictures.

If you kept up with Creeden and Liu, Karl, you must be feeling it today! And "Holy SMOKES" is right! I'm so glad my solar array has its own lightning rod. Right after dinner I'm going to try again with the pictures. I always thought I needed the modem plugged in to a computer, but the only way my computer is functioning now is with the modem out. Hmmm . . .

Thanks Lopper - here's the spanking new lightning rod atop the Mebee Pass lookout. Dave Tucker's doing the wiring.

Also, I just now figured out I've been misspelling 'lightning.' Everybody needs an editor, especially me.

There's a log over Granite Creek? I thought that trail was gone for good. That's the way the forest service explained. Always wanted to get up to Mebee Pass. Many years ago I headed up to the mines and then started down to cross East creek but it was too early and it was apparent the rest of the trip would be in snow. So turned and went up the old Boulder creek trail to the pass there and then back down. Before I could get back the bridge got washed away.Never saw a soul in 3 days. Nice country. Would love to help next year so let any of us here know if help will be needed.
