I liked this photo I took in the morning after a bivy on Vesper Peak. It's actually the forested summit of a nearby lesser peak.

Always a fun thread to check out. My notion of "best" wanders around a lot, but here's one I'm liking right now for the way it reminds me of the power of B&W and its ability to convey a sense of a moment and a place in a way that can, for some images, have more impact than color.

Yeah as contour5 said, I can't really compete with all these amazing shots with my poor iPhone 4S... There is a personal favorite, though; a friend and I did Mt. Stuart at the end of October. We did it in one day and foolishly didn't bring crampons which got us into some sticky situations in the snowfield near the false summit. This picture of the final ascent up the summit block represents, to me, the mixture of fear, triumph, and awe, among many other emotions felt on this trip.

I took this picture of a scene in front of my work office. A long hard day at work and the Sun was starting to sink low in the sky. The office building faced to the East so most of the setting sunshine was blocked. But the upper portions of the tall vine maple extended into the sky above the building and were lit by wonderful light.

More sweet shots above. That Stuart shot is great for a phone! Is it a pano? Like joker I've been drawn more to B&W in the last couple years:
Skiing Sparkplug
Skiing Sparkplug
This was one of the best powder skiing days of my life when all the conditions came together: a new place with great views, strong partners who broke trail like machines, sunny but cold to keep the snow in perfect condition, avy safe and settled, and smooth easy snow that skied like butter. My buddy Eric wouldn't drop into the gully I thought would photograph best, but the line he took worked out great - the shadows, clouds, ridge behind, and field of uncut snow below. Oh how I wish we had similar conditions now!

I can't possibly pick just one. I've been thinking about it since this thread was posted, and I'm still not really able to choose a single best photo. So instead, I'm going to post one I like, from this year; it was my first Milky Way shot.
I camped on Slate Peak and had a field day.

Thanks! Yeah, I use pano mode a lot since I can crop out part I don't like and it ends up being higher resolution than a regular shot of the same aspect ratio. The only problem is when the sun is out you can see color artifact bands where the stitching doesn't smoothly blend the exposure, but sometimes it turns out pretty good.

Whoa, stunning shot Will. Happy trails in 2014. Love the creative energy of everyone on this thread BTW.
Waxing moon at the gloaming

This was taken at dusk with a cooperative moon. I like that there was enough light on the horizon to expose the mountain and glacier. It was also a dreamy trip dizzy.gif It was processed using only Lightroom.

Lush dynamic range seattlenative. Was this managed through HDR?

yes spectacular photos everyone....love the lightning Will smile.gif The wildflowers shot was 7 50mm shots stitched together. Each was blended in Lightroom Enfuse from 3 bracketed shots. Bugs were then cloned out wink.gif
