Visited my Mom in Bellingham. We walked from her house in Happy Valley up Sehome Hill and back. The neighborhood really hasn't changed much in 30 years.

Lookout Mountain near Marblemount – 3/22/14
I got lost, I got found, got to an avalanche zone…turned around.
Driving back to Seattle in Darrington town,
Was rerouted by mudslide, and for myself gave a frown.
Until the details I learned upon return to the city,
And thought to myself, “oh my God, what a pity”.
Morning stop for coffee in Darrington View from Cascade River Road just before Lookout Mountain Trailhead. One of the few pictures I bothered to take...at around 3600' in a meadow off the summer trail. Same Meadow as the other picture looking the opposite direction.

Basked in the sun on Oyster Dome on Sunday. Started from the Samish Overlook (good loos, but why no trash cans anywhere? *driving home with bags of dog poop stinking up car*), up the steeps to Oyster Dome, then around Lily Lake to Lizard Lake and back to Samish via Max's Shortcut.
I love this loop - Oyster Dome is always crowded, but on the other trails we hardly ever meet anyone. Lots of mud along Lily Lake, but it looks like they're planning to reroute the trail a little higher to avoid the worst of it.
The Poo Poo Point of the north. Inquisitive nutria View from Oyster Dome

Awesome otter pics Hikingqueen! What a treat--for you, although it looks like the otter is quite enjoying some sushi.

A Discover Pass is required, which I thought means that an outhouse, a picnic bench and a trash cans needs to be provided - or is that just a Forest Pass rule? EDIT: I can't find anything about this on the Discover Pass site, so scratch that. But supplying a trash can would surely still be better than having to fish garbage out of the outhouses (see below).
The lack of a trash can means that idiots leave their bags of poop (and random picnic debris) scattered all over the place. I saw several bags of dog poop that people had thrown down into the toilet.

HQ: the signs along 5-mile drive seem to be placed at those spots where the raccoons lurk alongside the road. (several near culverts, as shown in one of your photos above).
I've wondered if the signs are serving as some sort of catalyst- provoking some cretins to "stick it to the man" by feeding the little beggars any and all garbage junk foods they have in the car and can toss out the window (along with the wrappers, of course.)
great shots, btw. way mo' betta than my hand-held-out-the-window-with-the-engine-running shots.

That's the problem. The flip side is people use the trash cans to dump their RV garbage, home garbage or whatever. Its a double edged sword.
I agree though that in places without trash cans that usually doesn't stop people from just throwing crap around like where they think there should be a trash can or as you say down the outhouse hole. I bet that is fun to deal with....
