Over Memorial Day weekend we caught the Lady of the Lake Ferry from Fields Point and arrived in Lucerne around noon. It was super hot, and yep you ALREADY need to bring your bug repellant. The mosquitoes are a'swarming near the swampy area by Damke Lake. The hike to the junction to Damke Lake was straight forward, from Damke Lake to Emerald Park the trail is snow free until about 4800 ft, the trail is still easily discernible from the snow line to Emerald Park. There are 96 down tress (by our counting standards). Oh yeah and there are a ton of ticks. We were able to camp on solid ground, but the sights under trees are still under 18 or so inches of snow.
Amazing WildFlowers!
Last 600 ft or so to camp under snow.
The next am found the trail to Milham Pass, this took a little meandering to locate it, but once we were on it, it was mostly easy to follow. The trail is still under snow in shady parts. At Milham Pass, we opted to stay at the 6600 ft contour line, rather than drop to the basin and roll over to Borealis Pass. To gain the ridge, we took a rock rib to the right of a gully that absolutely goes but had a pretty substantial cornice over it. The rock rib was out of the way of the cornice.
Sorry didn't take a picture of the rock rib we went up. The gully is right below the cornice in the foreground.
At the ridge, you get your first view of the summit of Pinnacle. There is a faint trail in the scree, and a more obvious trail once you start the 2nd class scramble portion of the climb. I don't think there was anything harder than class 2, there may have been 1 class 3 move. It took about 3 hours for us to get to the summit from Emerald Park. Then we descended the route.
Pinnacle from the ridge.

Heading to Domke this Saturday for a WTA weeklong logout, so there will be considerably less than 96 downed trees by the 13th. Thanks for the warning about the bugs.

That is a pretty hike. We did that a couple summers ago when we were getting Cardinal, Emerald, and Saska.
