Delicate Arch with New Moon and Venus Descending, Arches National Park. This was a really memorable day for me. Perfect cold clear weather, spent the afternoon and evening at the arch, as the few people there trickled away until it was just me and a pro and his client and the arch. It was interesting to watch and hear them work. And I saw them a couple of times in other spots over the next couple days.

While I was a bit early for the larches, I was perfect for the huckleberry leaves. No berries - too dry. Gotta have more Chelan Sawtooths!

Swamp Lake
Swamp Lake
I liked this image of swamp lake (Wallowas) in September. The contrast of light brown grass, blue water, snowy backdrop just seemed neat to me

Just a cell phone pic, but I've been experimenting a lot with photosphere this past year to capture a larger portion of the experience of the places I go. Basically this one is three 270 degree panoramas stacked on top of each other. One feature that is often included in these type of shots in a shadow of the photographer which is kinda fun. I had a lot to chose from, but this is one of my favorites from 2015.

Tough one--I think this is my best because of the subject matter and the impromptu swim required to get the shot!

Searched for, and finally found, an image in upper Muncaster Basin last October where the sun did its magic on the landscape. The sun was about 15-20 degrees above the western horizon and shining through high clouds with a slight overcast. This turned the glacially formed hummock-meadows into a riot of deep reds and golds, as you can see here. This was heavenly, and the color changed so suddenly that I dropped my jaw onto the heather. After picking my jaw back up, I just wandered rather aimlessly, soaking in the colors and atmosphere of this high meadowed area, with the little creek gurgling along and making its bubbly songs to add to the overall enchanting wizardry of colors. Even with the ultra-dry summer, or perhaps BECAUSE of the ultra-dry summer, the groundcover colors were really glorious. I was only about half a mile from camp, but it took me 3 hours to do that half-mile...go figure! Zeiss Ikonta Ercona 6x9 with Zeiss Tessar lens Heavy freaking tripod (!) Velvia 100F

This was one of my favorite photos of 2015 because it was a reward for patience. Enduring relatively high winds, a 5 mile hike RT at the end of a long day, and changing lighting conditions at Arches National Park made this photo special to me.
