Still some room on several trips for this summer. If you find WTA trips all full and want to see another area, cross over to the state line and check out what the neighbors are up to. I'm doing the week-long trip to Fawn Lake in The Mallard Larkins and some extra hands are needed!

Bumping this as there are still 5 spots to fill on this work party. It's a good chance to visit this proposed wilderness and give some love to an area that sorely needs it.

Quote: | In the Mallard Larkins Pioneer Area deep in the St. Joe, volunteers will spend a week backpacking and clearing trails around Fawn Lake and Martin Peak. We’ll be packed into our camp by Forest Service Mule Packers, and we will work each day from camp clearing as far as we can go over the week. With the pack support to help us get to our base camp, volunteers will just need to hike in with a day pack. Volunteers will be responsible for bringing their own backpacking meals for this project. The gorgeous and remote area offers amazing views from peaks and lookouts, fishing in high mountain lakes and streams, and is known for its diverse wildlife. |

I hadn’t thought about the wildlife. Seeing moose or goat, or hearing wolves in this area wouldn’t be unusual. Add in the usual cast, but seeing bobcat or cougar would be unusual. Lots of porcupines for some reason I don’t understand.

Photo showed a cabin. Presumably location for longer term food storage.
Cut & paste from ITA. FB. Pyrites.
For the first time in ITA’s history, we are excited to be offering a very special Wilderness Immersion trip this summer. Eight volunteers will fly into the Frank Church Wilderness starting in July and spend three weeks living and working in the Chamberlain Basin area, one of the most remote places in "the Frank". The purpose of this project will be to not only accomplish trail work but also allow for a deeper connection with the land and personal growth allowed by extended time away from modern life.
If this sounds like something you might like to do, please send us an email at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org indicating your interest and what draws you to this experience. We will be setting exact dates soon and opening up applications on March 1 for members.

Wow, what a great organization. 10,000 hours is awesome.

Let's not forget that WTA has posted it's trail work parties on it's website.
