Peak 5520 is the high point in the Medra Creek watershed, so I'm taking the liberty of calling it Medra Peak. Tim Hagan submitted it to Peakbagger.com in 2013 to be considered for inclusion as an unranked peak on the "Back Court Top 100" list.
We followed Johnson Medra Trail #1383 up to the ridge (5400') that separates the Johnson Creek and Medra Creek drainages... where we picked up Koppen Mountain Trail #1225... where we opted to hike south on #1225 a half-mile or so to the gentle summit of Medra Peak... where we continued hiking south on #1225 for another third-of-a-mile before leaving the trail and going cross-country... as we worked our way up and down along the ridge to Point 5343... then south and east along the ridge to Point 4720 before completing the loop portion of our hike by following the ridge down to the junction of trails 1383.1 and 1383... leaving a half-mile of hiking to get back to the car.
7.6 miles roundtrip... gaining 3127 feet of elevation.
There were lots of ups and downs along the cross-country portion of the ridge... and lots of rock outcroppings that involved some Class 2 work.
Photos, trailhead directions and downloadable GPS track of our trip to Medra Peak.
