Now if someone would fell some logs across the creek right at the start of the trail ( so that a snow bridge would build up ) that would be really great!
The easy way to avoid that creek crossing is to start at the Silver Fir base and ski up the East -> Central crossover trail maybe 1/4 Mike to where the nordic pass trail crosses. There aren't any signs at the crossing, but there are several blue diamond markers.
in winter we frequently follow the blue diamonds up to Nordic pass. But yesterday i drove up the summer forest service road to Grand Junction and hike up over Nordic and down to Windy pass. Invisible in winter there a quite nice dirt road/path that takes you to Nordic and the Snotel gauge. My hike down to Windy Pass was a bit harder in that the trail is very overgrown. While the trail itself has few bushes at foot level....you have to wade through a lot of chest high bushes.
I would not try the Nordic to Windy segment in Winter solely on snowshoes (pretty steep in spots).
