A warm spell following a cool spell resulted in a balmy bluebird day on Tam McArthur ridge outside of Sisters Oregon.

I haven't done a trip report in quite some time. Figured it was time with this one.
I have been hiking with the friendly CONC (Central Oregon Nordic Club). Not high speed or long hikes, which matches my post fusion ankle just fine, still.
Dog wasn't sure about the snowman.

We carpooled up to get to the trailhead at the usual break of noon. I grabbed 3 of the more ambitious hikers for my car, and we all made it to the original planned "short hike group" goal of The Prow, versus the other dozen people all turned back early. Apparently traction devices have not really been discovered here and the trail was a trough of ice all the way from the start, so car load after carload bailed quickly.
Lots of people headed back at this spot.

I was glad we had dropped all but the Intrepid-4 by the time we met the several car loads of Forest Rangers, that were up there with trail tools and completely snow covered trails.
That way I didn't have to deal with the confrontation of the pile of Rangers and the official ride leader's completely unruly, bad behaved, animal chasing, people knocking over, unleashed, large dog she brings along on every hike.
instead the intrepid-4 had peace and quiet, and a very fun, tight group.
Victory without traction devices. I had traction devices on my boots.

It is a nice trail anytime of year, but the day was a gem, and our first chance to hike the area without fires burning and smoke filling the air.
It starts out through forest before breaking out into meadows, with views all along the way.
6.1 miles RT
7730 feet high point
1397 feet elevation gain
6516 feet parking lot.

Then you are up on the ridge in open meadows and barrens.

Great views of Bachelor on the way up.
Bachelor.

The prize is the view from the Prow, which is normally a very easy 6 mile RT hike, but with snow, heavy boots, traction devices and ice, it was far enough even for the intrepid-4.
One of the easier accesses to a view from 7730 feet elevation.

Life is good in Central Oregon (now that the snow finally stopped the fires)
I will say next summer is going to be overloading the trails that didn't burn, which are very few. We saw and smelled a lot of burnt forest from the hike views.
