The washouts on the Money Creek Road have been repaired. There's one spot about a mile from the end of the road where you will benefit from having a vehicle with high clearance and a decent angle of approach/departure. Otherwise, the road is in good shape. The route starts out on a decommissioned road. At the end of the road, there is a rough bootpath the entire way to the lake if you know where to look. The brush will exfoliate your legs if you're wearing shorts and you'll become well acquainted with spiderwebs if you're leading the way. We only clocked 1.25 miles from the car to the lake, but with all of the brush/roots/mud/logs, it took us about an hour. Bugs were a nuisance at the lake so we were glad to have the Thermacell. Fun evening trip in an area with lots of historical relics.

Yea, it is or was back to being an active claim (haven't been up there is a few years). There are or were signs a bit past the mid-tram station stating that, and basically said fell free to explore the area, but respect the claim.

From Fourteen410's report, it sounds like the rough patch just before the Apex parking area is still rough. I was happy to be in a 4x4, might have gone for it in the old outback. When I was up there 2 years ago there were 2 really aggressive drain dips just past lake Elizabeth.

An Outback should be fine. Depends more on driver competence/confidence.

That area before the switchbacks is dicey and prone to rocks on the road, then above the switch backs there's a tricky dip where decent ground clearance is beneficial.

It has been several years since I've been there. Is it the Money creek road you take or the Miller river road. I was thinking it was the Miller river road. Like I said it has been a long time. It is a beautiful area though.
