That was intended in terms of button placement. I originally had it to the left but didn't like how it looked so merged it with the reply button. Still tweaking things (now should display inside the reply button to the top left). As far as use, I'm thinking it provides an option to thank someone for their contribution when you otherwise wouldn't. I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. I've participated on other forums that have this feature and would say it encourages more participation than vice versa. Without feedback contributors will eventually stop posting. The proof is in the pudding for each of us in terms of posting history. I can say my record will improve in terms of thanking others with the added functionality.

In the process of fixing it. Buttons may not show up for other browsers as well until fixed.

It should display over the reply button to the top left. If you're not seeing it let me know what browser and operating system.

IMO it's a bit confusing to have it merged with the reply button. The graphic on the quote button doesn't do anything different so why should this one? Plus it's tiny on mobile, hard to hit the right one even if you know they are different (which you only would if you read this thread). And how would different types of reactions be presented in the future?

Thanks for the feedback. Seems it's confusing so I'll break it out. With other reactions the overlay will change based on your selection, same as if it were a drop down list.

Added other reactions. Decided not to add "angry" to keep things constructive. Also made the icons a little bigger.
