Halide version 2.5 was released today which lets any iPhone made in 2017 of later shoot macros.

And here is a pic from our garden. Straight off the phone, all I did was reduce the size to 900px high.
tl;dr app selects the camera with the shortest focal distance, allows manual focus, and uses AI to enhance the resolution. probably other stuff too. works even better on the newest fanciest iphone which has a more suitable camera.
