Looks like our furnace is going out. Was able to get it going after cycling power but definitely on borrowed time. Anyone have a recommendation for service / repair in the Issaquah area?

I was very pleased with Greenwood Heating. Installed a new gas furnace.

Get a nice Cowichan sweater and a cat - the door is open about fifty times a day - and your heating and air conditioning will be set.

Tom, you might see which heating companies are authorized dealers for your brand of furnace. They would be more likely to have stock of exact replacement parts. A lot of the newer high efficiency gas furnaces also have some type of fault lights that can indicate if there is a fault and which one.

Thanks, it's a 30 year old (80% efficiency) furnace. Fault is 31 (open pressure switch). I think the switch may be faulty as the vents don't appear to be blocked and the pressure hose is still pliable and not cracked. I can get the furnace going intermittently, just hoping it holds out until I can replace (it's 30 years old, so definitely time to replace). Called Greenwood and they can't stop by for a service call until Monday. Also called Brennan to see if i could get a sooner appointment but they didn't even reply back. Guessing all the companies are backed up this time of year. Also requested a Costco quote on a new furnace (presumably would be Lennox, with 10% Costco discount). I believe they use Brennan for install.

Tom, you may be able to order a replacement switch from Amazon and have it there today or tomorrow. If you need to "get by" until someone can get there and replace the whole thing.

FWIW. The HOA pool in my condo development had its pool heater replaced over the summer. The newly installed heater would run for 5 minutes and then quit. Multiple service/repair calls (at two week intervals due to "scheduling conflicts") before they finally agreed tge unit installed was defective. A replacement heater being installed this week. Lots of excuses made blaming the supply chain and the pandemic for delays and poor quality parts. So you might want to have a good supply of space heaters in case the new furnace installation doesn't go smoothly.

I replaced my old furnace with a high efficiency modern gas furnace a few years back. Wishing now I had gone the heat pump route since technology has improved and summers are getting hotter in The PNW.

The new heat pumps are supposed to be very good. Friends have the wall mounted kind and love it.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I keep fixing our 30 year old Lennox furnace. Flame sensors go out most often which allows it to start then shuts down after 10-20 seconds because the flame sensor doesn't send a signal that the gas is burning. Spark igniters go next which should have a very fast spark cycle when it tries to light (if you hear an irregular sparking sound this is usually bad. A your or two ago I had to replace the circuit board. Most of the parts are cheap and easy to fix but if you don't have another source of heat it's not worth messing with. Best of luck to you.

Lucky you! Out hear in Sequim, the heating company most recommended to us can fit us in for a visit in December. And we've been on the waiting list for a few weeks.
