Looking for someone to join me on a 1 day trek starting at the Lena Lake Trailhead and making the backcountry traverse from upper lena, past scout lake, lake of the Angels and down the putvin way trail. Flexible on dates as i am retired. Would consider 1 night along the way if someone wanted more time. I have always wanted to do the Catwalk also. Any other "off the beaten path" i would consider. Let me know whos interested or ideas! Randy Thorn

I'm interested. Also flexible on dates. Not retired yet, but can do weekdays. Definitely prefer 1-day hikes of any length. You also mentioned the Catwalk, Is that the Kendall Katwalk or another hike? Since you are open to suggestions, how about the Mt Rainier Wonderland trail section from Frying Pan Creek to Box Canyon?

I was looking at the catwalk in the olympics but would love to see other areas. I like weekdays to avoid some of the crowds. I will check out that section of the wonderland trail. Randy

Super! I'm less familiar with the Olympics since it is a bit of a drive for me (not opposed - just prefer to hike than to drive). Unfortunate that there is still so much snow this year, but willing to hike whenever the weather is favorable (weekdays also preferred - my work schedule is pretty flexible) and it is safe to do so. I should add the wonderland trail segment I mentioned requires the positioning of two vehicles to make it work. I've done this before, and it is worth it. Richard

I did the Upper Lena Lake to Lake of the Angles traverse last August. My only regret was not slowing down and taking more time to explore the Scout Lake area. Oh no I beat myself up making the traverse, down the Putvin trail which really isn't a trail, and back to the Lena Lake trail head. Fortunately, a kind soul picked me up on the road and got me back to my truck just before dark. the only wildlife I observed was a family of river Otters.

Did you need an ice axe for the snowfield up to St Peters Gate or were microspikes and trekking poles adequate?

Did not have micro spikes or crampon’s just trekking poles. I was able to get around the icy spot by going on the dirt without issues. I can sort of see the way up to the gate from my house and can tell you as of today 7/3/22 that there is still quite a bit of snow still on the route. If I can figure it out I’ll post a copy of my route here.
