Gas prices and inequality of income have nothing to do with it. These aren’t poor unfortunates trying hard to make a life but failing. Ludicrous. Breaking into cars is not being done to pay rent increases, or because of butthurt over other people’s wages. PS: gas prices are not “approaching $6”. I have never paid over $5 in my life, not even today at a 7-11 in Seattle because I was almost out, not the best price around by far.

Definitely not suggesting these are poor unfortunates, just that additional pressures coupled with lack of enforcement make this existing stuff worse. Parked cars at TH are easy picking for these people because the police don't seem to care. every time my car was done over the police weren't interested in the slightest. Meanwhile there's cops ticketing folks like myself for doing 5 over along Lake Sammamish way and fining people for not displaying a Discover Pass.

In N. Bend the Shell off N Bend way is running $5.77 for regular cash ($5.89 for credit). Not sure why Seattle is cheaper but good for you.

That's been my experience with Seattle for years now in two different neighborhoods. My family and friends in Chicago think I am making it up.

With inequality in the US becoming ever greater coupled with a general lack of law enforcement for these types of crimes, its naive to think that we can live in a society without increasing crime, just look at South Africa for how this plays out.
South Africa is a very rough place, and in general I agree with the sentiment. However, the property crime rates are much lower in the cities there. Seattle has about 5200 property crimes per 100,000 residents, and Cape Town has about 4000. Johannesburg has less than half of Seattle. So does Los Angeles. The only city larger than Seattle in the US with a higher property crime rate is San Francisco. Like the encampment and drug issues, social ills are unlikely to be "solved." But I think it is important to acknowledge that we have a long way to go to get to an achievable baseline.

Seems no where is safe anymore. A friend of mine had a bunch of his hiking gear stolen out of his storage unit at Litehouse Storage in Marysville. Luckily for him, that facility requires it's renters to have insurance.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Hate to interrupt this riveting thread full of people wanting to kill other people over property crimes, but I genuinely want to know where you're easily able to find sub-$5 gas in the Seattle area, even Safeway and Costco gas around me has gone over 5 bucks.

Paid $4.79 with a card today on I-5 north of Arlington- was 38 minutes from home, but I was up there anyway. Had to wait in line though. It was under $5 at Safeway in Seattle the other day when everyone was over- 7-11 was cheap too.

The GasBuddy app is your friend. $4.92 at the Safeway in Ballard on 15th and 85th.

FYI: from a MTB user group about the HWY-18 summit DNR South Tiger parking are.
Quote:
Heads up to anyone coming to Tiger this morning there's a guy with what looks like a siphoning tool prowling the parking lot. I didn't get a close look but per another rider he's been on the lot for a while. Don't leave your car until he's gone: red pickup truck. Sheriff is coming to check it out.

Syphoning does not work well on newer cars now perps drill a hole in the tank dizzy.gif . Fits right in with stealing hot copper wires. I must be getting old.

I thought TH's would be somewhat safer on weekends, due to more people around. Guess not! Also- Gas is a bit less at Truckstops and Casinos.
