The Methow FS website was indicating the North 20 mile trail had been logged out for the first three miles so Steve and I decided to give it a go.

Start of unworked trail is not bad, as indicated here, but the ridge just below the LO gets much more clogged and requires some fancy log maneuvers.

We met a girl doing FS volunteer work on the LO and she told us they plan on continuing the trail work next week. She also said they plan on replacing the roofing shingles in the near future. The roof materials are being moved up there now.

She said they would be continuing the trail work now but one of the main sawyers is down with something so they decided to let him recoup for a week or so. Also, be warned the water source at the top appeared to be buried under deep snow. We postholed getting over there and decided to go back to the LO and melt snow instead.

Hey, I met you both on the trail! Great to see your report and photos and I hope you had a wonderful evening up there! Log out operations should resume later this coming week on N20 but with the amount of deadfall it could take another week or two to fully clear out the trail. The FS website should be updated when the log out is finished. Lots of heavy log loads on trails this season. Cheers!

Thanks for the trail report for north 20 mile! I've been wanting to do this hike for several years now. Only one wee comment. You mentioned a "girl" was doing trail work when you were up there. Perhaps in future, you could refer to such an individual as a "female" or "woman", unless of course it truly was a girl (i.e. a female under the age of, say, 12) doing the field work...Thank you.

Sorry for the gender pronoun faux pas, but I have an excuse. I grew up in the Entiat valley above Ardenvoir. She did look young. It may be because of all the years she has spent hiking. hockeygrin.gif

Please tell the OkaWen folks thank you for their log out work. I remember having to hop and saw many a log back in 2020 when I went up there. I'm sure it's a major task every year with windfall/avalanche blowdowns.
