Been on my list for a long time so I went for it yesterday. Was hoping for the big view but missed it by a few hours. Plenty of info out there on Phelps. Here's my take. At the moment the North Fork Rd is bad (might require two beers on the return trip!). Huckleberry is wetter than Salal. Crampons over mircrospikes (and an axe.) The snow that still remains is plenty firm (and crampons work great coming down steep huckleberry and duff! agree.gif ) Traverse left lower than higher.

Nice job. The start/finish in the clearcut was the nadir. I did it about a month earlier years ago and it was a nice snow(shoe) hike after about the first 500 vertical feet. I doubt the years of growth since have made the clearcut any easier.
