We had heard the road was closed by a friend who went up Friday. So we headed up to Exit 42 to have a nice hike and avoid the usual crowds and parking disasters. BIG MISTAKE! When we arrived at the exit there were about 20 cars. Headed up the trail and it far improved with the same old log on the first crossing and a new rail added on the second. The trail was beautiful and quiet. As we neared the road we could see parked cars above and a person the way down told us he had camped at Mason Lake and 125 people passed him on the way down. Nevertheless we persisted. Cars were parked as far as we could see in both directions but not on the west side. We only saw a few dozen people up to the new bridge. As we progressed many groups passed in both directions typically 6-10 hikers. There were clouds that lifted as we progressed. Finally could see the big guy. Lots of folks Headed up to Banderra no snow. True mod sceen on the way down hundreds for sure thousands maybe. Turns out the road is open after noon Friday to Monday. No pix as everyone here has been there.
