Does anyone know what is with all the helicopter activity in Enchanted Valley this week? Both Monday and Tuesday we heard helicopters (but couldn't see them). Then Wednesday morning from 8am to around 10am one was flying up and down the valley. For a while we saw it flying closely to the ridge south of Chimney Peak, as if it were looking for someone.
Was there a SAR? (I couldn't find any news about it). Or is this just regular park stuff?

A friend of mine got air lifted out of Brothers Wilderness on Monday due to broken ankle. Not sure where the helicopters originated from. Not that close to Enchanted Valley.

Are they still looking for mountain goats to relocate? But could just be practicing etc.

I thought about the goats, but I think the airlifts ended last year, and now they're just letting hunters have at the remaining ones.

Ah, that must have been it! For some reason I thought it had ended. It was a medium-sized red helicopter, which looks like the one in the link.
Sorry to hear about your friend's incident

Clearly the use of helicopters is the minimum requirement if it is indeed the intent of the National Park Service to complete this task before the next millennium.

Put a brand X goat in the park, I’m sure the cougars will say Thanks.
