Last summer our friend Steve camped in the upper Entiat meadows and hiked Cool Creek trail to the top of Cool Mt to check it out. He them backtracked to the Entiat meadows. It was the same route Matt took except that he didn't continue on over to the Ice Creek junction. His report was about the same as Matt's in that the trail is very followable up to the top.
Brings back memories. I did part of it back in the late 80s..but we mistook an old sheep drive for the trail. Eventually ended up at the Buttes where there was no way down. It was beautiful. One night we camped in an area full of blue berries. Then another up at the buttes where we actually found water. On the way out we figured out we missed a switchback that was the main trail. I can still see the place as there was a small campsite there. It was an adventure and crossing the entiat river was no problem. There were some wild raspberries along the way too. Wonderful country.
