With help here, looked for info about the Three Sisters Loop in Oregon over on Oregon Hikers. Have had foot pain since late December, but thought my foot would be better by now. Dr isn't much help,got some orthotics, a time thing evidently. Still car camping along the Oregon coast a few days, with a couple nights before that close to the Rogue River, then inland another 2 or 3 nights. Was hoping to bp in the Eagle Cap Wilderness for 4 nights then do the Three Sisters Loop a couple days later, jumping thru hoops to get a reservation. Dang, hardly doing any extended bp trips any more. Duane

Hikerduane, sympathy on the foot issues. FWIW and YRMV, one thought worth passing on - "The Runner's Repair Manual" by Dr. Murray Weisenfeld has brought me back from injury (hiking or running) multiple times. Clear illustrations for diagnosing and treating foot and leg problems. My copy is from 1980 and I still use it, find it thought provoking in analyzing issues, addressing them before they become problematic. You can find used copies online for $5 or less. I'm not disagreeing with your doctor, just suggesting broadening your scan for a path forward. Good luck with it. Hope it gets better.

Thank you, will look for a copy. Also upset that I can't jog a few times a week to help with conditioning. Turn 69 in Sept., so need a little exercise. I ride my comfort style MTB a few times a week too. Should add I do have some orthotics in my shoes now. Duane

Hoka one ones have helped a few people I know, including me. The best one for me is the Bondi. However, I'm trying a Skecher knockoff that seems to be just as good and about $40 less. Haven't had them long enough to see how long they last. Now I've got another problem on a foot and haven't looked into doctors here. Was very disappointed with the last foot specialist I went to. His treatment option? Lose weight and quit walking. So I continue to limp around on walks and stay off the rough ground.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I'm doing some exercises twice a day for this, added more time per my Chiropractor for the stretching and added a short foot exercise for my foot itself. Still need to apply the Ktape he said to use per some online instructions. Love passing up younger folks on a trail when I'm loaded for a week or so and they are day hiking. Duane

I used a night brace for a while, which cleared it up for me. It's a funky ski-ish boot type brace (you can't walk in) that keeps the ankle joint at a 90 degree angle, which in my case stretched the plantar sufficiently. Orthotics ("super feet") insoles were nothing but trouble - and actually caused knee pain due to unbalanced loading on my menisci, which exacerbated "varus knee" symptoms. My orthopedic surgeon told me to chuck them and go with regular insoles. He prescribed a knee "unloader" brace for a while to see if I was a candidate for something called a High tibial osteotomy (ouch). Luckily, my knee pain went away so I didn't need to have that done. Good luck, hope you find a solution soon.

I spent almost a year with PF; nasty stuff. What finally cured it (in addition to stretching, exercise, orthotics, and rolling a frozen water bottle under my arch) was a night splint. When we relax in sleep, our feet go into a pointy-toe position, which allows the plantar fascia to tighten up and ruins all the good done by exercise and stretching during the day. With the splint, this doesn't happen. It's important to stretch very gently, or you will reinjure the fascia. I've had good results with a number of physical probems (balance issues and osteoporosis) following the "Bob & Brad" physical therapy videos on youtube. Here's one on plantar fasciitis. Hi young lady. I do have a foot brace, only used it a few nights, as it made my leg swell up, that and I had a bad bruise from a firewood round rolling into my leg this Spring when out cutting wood. I'll apply that brace again. Duane

I dealt with PF for years. Tried all the stretches, splints, socks, even a sonic treatment supposed to break up the scar tissue with no resolution. Every morning when my feet landed on the floor getting out of bed a sharp pain shot through my heel. So I started stretching gently BEFORE I even got out of bed in the morning. I found that gently stretching the entire back side (Toes up, leg straight, torso bent towards foot as far as possible) eliminated re-injury every morning and started recovery. Best of luck to you - PF can be a tough recovery.

I’m coming off 4 mo of PF in one foot. I think i am nearly over it. What worked for me, as others have said; - exercise/stretch before getting out of bed, - rolling a frozen water bottle in the eve, alternating with a nice device I found - a PVC 1” and 1/4 compression fitting. It fits my foot perfectly. I do this while I am sitting during the day. - On my physio’s advice, I soak my foot in warm water in the am, cold water in the evening. - Get 1/4” to 1/2” wedges in your shoes, along with good arch support insoles. - Most important: tape your foot! I use pre-cut Mueller PF Tape. I get several days out of each taping. Good luck!

For mine I stretch lots, even when not hiking. First thing in the morning especially, and if I get up in the night too. I have insoles, and always use treking poles. Helped quite a bit.

I watched the video, will have to do the stretching before getting out of bed and get that sock, seems the angle and anchor points are better than the painful device I tried again last night. Duane

I had PF for at least a year, I think mine was brought on by ill fitting shoes. I had a job where I was on my feet all day which didn't help. As soon as I retired, my PF magically went away.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
