This is an underappreciated trail. WTA makes the road sound horrible, I spent the first several miles of the drive thinking it's one of the better dirt and gravel roads I've been on. Then, suddenly, it's like Harts Pass and there's somebody coming my way. The last mile of the road is fine with only one car but very sketchy with one car coming and another going. The trail allows dirt bikes, I think there were three all day, in a group, they passed quickly and that was that. About as many hikers.
The trail follows an old road part of the way, which again is nobody's favorite, but is mostly a real hiking trail. On the ridge you feel like you're walking in the sky. The views get better with every step. I didn't think the burn was as bad as WTA would have you believe, it was nothing like the Norse Peak trail or most of the Pasayten. Overall a great hike.
