Hello all, I am starting a hike circumnavigating Glacier Peak tomorrow, hoping to start by hiking up the Napeequa valley up and over High Pass. Has anyone been in that area recently? I am interested in the conditions of the river crossing and if there is enough snow around High Pass to warrant carrying an ice axe. Thanks! I look forward to posting a detailed report when I get back.

We're starting on Saturday going the opposite direction. Do you have an InReach and want to trade phone numbers so we can text each other beta during the trip? How many days are you planning? Let me know if you want me to share my CalTopo map full of potential campsites, water sources, water crossings, etc. Here's to hoping that no wildfires start with the lightning storm over the area currently.

Looks like there were some fire starts in the area, the FS doesn't really know whats going on yet. Major bummer.

Nothing being reported by NWCC yet and I just called Darrington Ranger Station and they said there were no active fires in the area and believed that smoke shouldn't be a significant concern. https://gacc.nifc.gov/nwcc/information/firemap.aspx https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/mbs/about-forest/offices/?cid=fsbdev7_001648

I called the Wenatchee River Ranger District and they said a few fires started, they haven't closed anything but they don't recommend hiking. One fire started very close to Buck Creek Pass

Irving Peak is burning pretty well to the south and there seem to be some small fires near Phelps Creek as well. Tried to call the Darrington station again but looks like I missed them before they closed. Will try again tomorrow. Still leaning towards going though since we're starting PCT side and can potentially bail out via the White Chuck River trail and technically the Suiattle River Trail even though it would involve a road walk due to the closure. I wonder if we can get beta from anyone on the PCT right now.

My buddy was there today and spotted a small fire just south of Buck Creek Pass. I’m having car problems and will need to take my partners car, an old Subaru Impreza with a hitch so low clearance. Will it make it to the White River th? I’ve never driven that road

Subaru will get you to White River just fine. You will probably want the Ice axe for High Pass. There’s still a lot of snow above 5000 feet on North slopes.

Uh, bad news -- that trail was wiped out 19 years ago.

I also am looking at a loop up by Glacier next week if the fire situation stabilizes. I intend to enter in on the North Fork Sauk Trail do a longer loop than shown in the link below then exit on Pilot Ridge. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/white-pass-pilot-ridge-loop Might be a way to get your Glacier Peak area hike in. Or not because I am sure that someone here will tell me I am incorrect dizzy.gif

Aren't you describing the exact loop described on the link? At any rate, it's a great one, and very popular.

this right here is why I don't post often. "I intend to enter in on the North Fork Sauk Trail do a longer loop than shown in the link below then exit on Pilot Ridge." So no, not the exact loop described just enter and exit the same.

Yikes, that stops you from posting? Sorry if I offended you (although really not sure how that happened?). Just trying to help and make conversation. Going up the NF Sauk and down Pilot Ridge sounds like the same loop. They are connected by the PCT, and that's your loop. I'd be interested to hear what longer version you're planning. Around Red Pass and the old White Chuck Glacier remnants area?
