My Scouts are going to learn about beavers. What are the best hikes to see beaver dams and other signs of beavers? And, are there beavers at Oxbow Lake trail?

Get up early, go all day, come home tired.

The beaver dam by Northgate Mall is probably still there. https://crosscut.com/2012/03/green-acre-radio-a-beaver-dam-near-northgate

There's a nice lodge at public access point in Madison Park called Beaver Lodge Sanctuary. Kind of an urban hike..sort of..

In 2018 I lived in Klahanie near Sammamish and there was an active beaver hut on Yellow Lake. Might still be there

There's a big beaver hut on lost lake in sultan. About an hour dirt road walk and 15mins through the trees. Easy enough to get to and minimal people.

none

At the east end of Mann Road in Sultan (discover pass required) you can walk a mile and a half or so to 47.85151, -121.71103 and there's a beaver pond. Also has a nice sandy beach with views of the mountains nearby along the sky.

If you want to see hear beavers slap their tails , you need to go at dusk to dark. You might be able to see them at dusk as they emerge, but it's more of a seeing wake patterns on the surface more than seeing the beavers themselves. There are several lodges along the Mercer Slough , but you need to be in a canoe/kayak to see them.

I saw beaver cut trees on the old logging road/trail there, but not the last time I walked the new trail. A little farther up the road past the Pratt River Bar trailhead but before the CCC junction there is a swampy area on the left with active beavers. They make mounds of branches which I think are food stores, build small dams to block the drainage culverts under the road, and there is one long dam in the middle of the pond. I've never spotted a lodge or a beaver.

Just be sure you know the difference between beaver activity and that of a Pacific Northwest Beaver-slug:

A long drive, but if anyone is ever up at Priest Lake there is a huge beaver dam about 20 miles north of Nordman on the NF Upper Priest river. It's about 50 yards wide and 100 yards long, big trees too and you can walk on them the length of it, the logs, not the beavers.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

When I was at Pratt River bar earlier this year there were tons of recently felled-by-beaver trees if you followed paths on the left as you reach the river shore.
