The wholesale price of refined gasoline reached about $4.37 early this summer, and has fallen since. It steadied around $2.88 to $3.00 the last couple of weeks but now it has fallen to $2.60/gallon today (8/31). As I recall before this big run-up it was around $2.28/gallon. I paid $3.99 retail last week in Arlington and it was at or near that range in that whole geographical area. Buy gasoline at stations that are commensurately dropping their prices.

I use the Gas Buddy app on my handset to find the least expensive gas in an area. Around where I live that's usually Costco with Safeway often a close 2nd. On road trips I've found it especially useful. I recall it directing me to a gas station several miles off I-90 in MT where the gas was $0.12 cheaper per gallon and returning to the freeway used a parallel road so it added only a couple miles to the total driving distance. I was in my motorhome with a 30 gallon tank, so $0.12 saved $3 on that fill up.

Google Maps can show you what gas stations are charging.

There are occasional Native American gas stations in CA and NV which have lower prices but not so far as I can tell in WA.

On trips to Oregon, I always fill up/top off at the Wolf Den in Wapato, consistently low prices over the years. Appears that it is Native American family owned. The Cle Elum Safeway (with Club points) is my go-to when traveling to the west side.

There are a couple between Seattle and Bellingham. The River Rock Gas Station north of Arlington is 3.93 currently (compared to nearby Pilot at 4.03). 3.85 next to the Skagit Casino. After a weird period when prices first spiked when it was cheaper closer to downtown Seattle, things seem to be back to normal with a good $1 spread between Seattle proper and outlying areas like Arlington.

And then there are typically cheaper gas prices in the Cle Elum area. So our routine is to make sure we at least have enough gas to reach Cle Elum, fill up, then grab a coffee at Pioneer Coffee.

...or an espresso milkshake at Lum's -- though it's hard to beat Pioneer Coffee's muffins 😋
