Another single night trip, so far no multi-night trips this Summer! Anyway, I somehow decided to try this hike. Two nights would be more relaxing especially if you are interested in side trips to Lena Mtn and Milk Lake, etc. My trip ended up 24mi/7.8k.
Relaxing trail to Lena Lake, maybe too gentle especially for return:
The last 2k' up to the upper lake gets bit tough, but the lake is beautiful:
About a half dozen groups camping spread out, I picked a site just above the day-use area (just below a ranger site!), which allowed me to walk around at night. The east side seemed to have more open sites.
When the moon is not out, Milky Way would be right over Bretherton
I had thought there was an established path up to Lena summit, but did not find any after Scout lake and futzed around bit.
On to Milk Lake:
Made it down by 7pm, home by 10pm. Wish I could have stayed another night to enjoy the trip slowly...but it was getting smokey anyway.
