Made it up Breccia Peak yesterday off N. Fork of the Sauk, a mostly straightforward hike other than taking the wrong trail for Sunup Lake and having to backtrack a bit along the ridge that leads over to Ziob. Mainly am posting this as a call out that the Lost Creek Ridge trail has TONS of gorgeous blueberries at their peak right now, so if you are a berry lover it’s prime time in this area. Of course, you do have to pay the price of doing 40 switchbacks up to Bingley Gap (I counted them as a distraction). Views were pretty good from the ridge at mid morning but significantly deteriorated as the day wore on, mainly to the south and west. I guess the Bolt Creek fire is mostly to blame although there’s another one keeping the Suiattle River Road closed. Check air quality before you head out for wherever this weekend. I have had this destination on my tick list at least a couple years but the weekend I finally planned to do it the Seattle Times did an article listing Lost Creek Ridge as a good hiking destination (and other places along the Mountain Loop). So I figured there’d be a glut of hikers but I got word of poor air quality in Darrington that weekend (a couple weeks ago now) so I put off the trip. As it was, I saw one older couple hiking out from Lake Byrne and another solo hiker backpacking to Sunup. So not super crowded, although it was a weekday.
Baker and Shuksan to the north, Pugh in the foreground. Clear air. Dome & Gunsight to the NE Sloan Peak and Monte Cristo Range with marked smoke haze to the south Glacier Peak (melting away) Top of Breccia, one of the few smooth grassy summits in the Cascades The one the only the magnificient Sunup Lake--reserve your tent site now! Round Lake, not looking very round Many many slopes covered with berry plants

I haven't been there, but I wonder if Grassy Point (north of Glacier Peak) is really grassy?
And Breccia is indeed a nice summit to lounge on and enjoy distant views.

It certainly appears to be grassy, from nearby on the PCT.

I have been to Grassy Point a couple times the last a couple years ago. The old trail shown on maps has pretty much disappeared. The route now is a lot of wast high grass that can be vey wet. Nice views.

Yes, that area is beautiful this time of year!!!
I tried to find Grassy Point a few years back while ding the circumnavigation. I ended up on a long, frustrating ridge with too many outcroppings to scramble with two hot dogs and not a lot of water and never made it to the “Point.” A friend had a very similarly disappointing experience.
