I have two cans of UDAP bear spray that have gone unused and uncarried. I thought to check for expiration and sure enough, 2010 and 2012. Any idea where I might look to dispose of these? I imagine tossing them in the trash is not the best option.

However you dispose them, use them up in a practice session first!

I hear those work on expired bears (and maybe even have some effect on the carnivores feasting on them but I wouldn't count on it).
In all seriousness I had the same reaction as texasbb - good practice - just make sure you are not spraying upwind.

Yeah, I had that thought actually. Haven't used one before so it would be entertaining. Or maybe hold onto them as "pepper" spray against hostile humans!

These days many areas are known to have heavy bear presence. When heavy bear presence can be felt in an area that area is designated a Heavy Bear Area. In a Heavy Bear Area you need all the horsepower you can get when it comes to BEAR SPRAY. Need many bottles of BEAR SPRAY in a Heavy Bear Area!!!!!!!!!

I have a half dozen cans of "expired" spray and one current one. I actually do keep one on the main level of my house, because monsters.
I did read that the expiration is mainly a liability thing because they can lose pressure. That said, I've tested and used expired cans on hikes on many occasions when the pressure seems unchanged - which has been every time I'd tried it.
Who knows, maybe it seems that the pressure is the same, only for it to last 3 seconds and then peder out.
