Davis Creek Unit - Scatter Creek Wildlife Area - WDFW - 03/11/21 The Davis Creek Unit is a parcel of agricultural land on the Chehalis River near Oakville which has been acquired by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife and is currently jointly managed by both WDFW and the former private property owners, with the intent of keeping the land agricultural. Most of the unit is prime agricultural bottomland, and is used as a corn farm. There is a wild, brushy, wooded strip along the Chehalis River. The documents I cited above show a proposal for the future acquisition of lands which will increase the size of the unit. Currently the actual size of the Davis Creek Unit is much smaller. Refer to the maps on the WDFW site. There was nobody else around on a sunny March weekday. The corn stubble from the previous years' crop was still standing in neat rows, much of it on somewhat muddy ground that hadn't quite dried out yet from the annual floods along the lower Chehalis. Dogs are allowed off-leash except for a window between April 1 and August 1. The dogs loved it, particularly the woodsy part over next to the river. We speculated that there might be challenges encountered were one to venture into the middle of it mid-summer when the corn is six feet high.
