Well that's terrifying. Bravo to SAR.

My partner took a fall on a talus field this weekend and sprained her wrist pretty badly after it was pinned beneath a boulder. It's sobering to see this headline after that.
Very impressed with this SAR response and thankful that we have such talented and skillful individuals there for us in a time of need.

I remember reading an article about pinning/crushing injuries after the Surfside building collapse last year. Apparently if a part of the body is compressed for a few hours, same sort of muscle/tissue breakdown can occur, creating toxins. When victims are extracted, the release of pressure allows the toxins to enter the bloodstream, often killing the victim. I believe it's called crush syndrome. I'm sure someone in the medical field can elaborate or correct me, but I'm glad this wasn't the case in this scenario.

My son was hiking through the area when the rescue was in play. Along with the chopper, they encountered a crew of rescue folks cruising up the trail at light speed.

It is, indeed, called crush injury symdrome. The protocol in Spokane County is rather lengthy and involves IV fluids, Sodium Bicarb, Albuterol, and Calcium Gluconate. All of these are to treat the problem of high pottassium levels as a result of the crush. Supposed to complete the treatments prior to releasing the patient if possible.
This was one lucky guy. Did this happen above the lake in the boulder field below Prusick peak?
