The instructions weren't complete, but from the photo it looks like the end step would be to leave this boot print in your vehicle up on the dash.
I have seen similar suggestions such as sending photos of your boot sole to the folks that you have told where you are going. ~z
It's not so much to track but to help decide if tracks could belong to the missing party or rule them out. Obviously it wouldn't help on busy trail but tracks leaving the trail or noticed in an unusual spot.
Percentage of SAR efforts where boot prints are actually tracked...? My guess is very few.
You don't think so? I don't personally leave boot prints in my car nor am I a member of SAR. But I have been separated from party members before and have identified where they went based on their footprints.
