This photo was taken in the summer of 1970. I am assuming the sign at lower right says [Cascade] "Crest Trail" with an arrow pointing left by the word "South". That implies this is at a junction of the CCT on the east side of the peaks in the background. Can anyone identify where this was taken? I'm not a PCT hiker, but I'm pretty sure it's not in the central Cascades (e.g. Snoqualmie to Stevens)
Thanks for the guess, but Jefferson is an isolated volcanic cone -- there's nothing that could be the peak on the right.
This was taken by a seasonal ranger living in Washington. It doesn't mean it's not someplace else, but it's likely to be in Washington somewhere.
In January Paul Klenke figured out where the mystery photo was taken -- along the upper Middle Fork Snoqualmie road near Hardscrabble. He added some 1-letter labels to the image on the site. Here are some images he emailed me (he agreed to me posting them). He said "It is my belief this is a photo looking up at Red Mountain and Lundin Peak from the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road maybe 1 to 1.5 miles up valley from Goldmyer Hot Springs."

I replied to his email - "I am embarrassed that it ended up being in the area I should know. But now that you point this out I was able to find another shot by one of the miners that works in that part of the valley. It was taken in 2010 just up the road where it crosses a talus slope so there is a view. Point 5720 isn't visible, but the other parts match exactly."
