Today we went up to Ebby’s Landing and did the loop hike. It was dead calm and the sound was flat as glass. When we got home to Issaquah our garbage cans were knocked over and there were many fir and maple limbs down in our back and side yards. Some were large enough to be fatal, the wind is still blowing. Power is out below our house on one street. No damage to our house so far. Be careful out there.

I ran my usual 6 mile loop around the Newcastle Golf Course tonight around 5pm and heard three trees fall down on Cougar. A bit frightening. Probably shouldn't have been out there. At least it was warm.

The Cable Line, which was 100% clear of windfall on Monday, was quite windy at the top last night. And it now has a whole new set of blow-downs, though none are particularly large or difficult to pass. If you so inclined, carry up a hand saw and contribute to clearing them. That's a decent thing to do on any of the trails after the wind yesterday. Adds to your workout, too.

If not now, when?

Thinking about heading up tonight! I'll bring my Silky Saw!

Earlier today we encountered a major blowdown exiting Section Line just below WT3, best bypassed climber's left. Everything below that is trivial.

Well I went up Cable Line and down WT3 tonight and counted 16 blowdowns. I did bring my saw but everything seemed too big to be worth using it. A chainsaw is going to be needed to clear things up. Unfortunately only one was really problematic and it was near the bathroom by the parking lot and blocking the trail. Probably going to impact a lot of less-abled people until it is removed. I did move a bunch of limbs and branches though.

Near the Cable Line up high, or down below? If near the CL I'll try to catch it.

If not now, when?

Yes, it's directly below the intersection of Cable/Sec Line as you exit for WT3. It is extensive.

Yes. If you make a turn onto Sec Line, just before topping out on WT3 via Cable/(or by the trail sign collection smile.gif ), you will find "somewhere in here" very quickly.

Ran the loop again today and almost all the blowdowns are gone. Including the problematic one near the bathrooms. Our community rocks!

So....you got the one day it wasn't windy on Whidbey? lol.gif I can tell you that it is nearly always windy. We shake our trees out far more than the valleys do for sure.

It was the calmest I had ever seen, usually you can lean out over the cliffs.

A standing round of applause for whoever(s) cleared a route through the jungle of downed trees at the top of Section Line! party.gif
