Has anyone tested these companies' responses to product failures? Coincidentally, my 2 favorite jackets suffered from blown main zippers within a month of each other. One is a Patagonia fleece jacket I bought in the late '80s or early '90s. The other is a 5-year-old Marmot down puffy jacket. Both Patagonia and Marmot used to promote "Lifetime guarantees", but I don't know if they still do or would still honor a claim on an old item - especially a 30+-year-old Patagonia jacket. I have friends who worked for both of these companies years ago and they told stories of how customers would return items damaged by the user but the company would honor the guarantee without question. But I don't know if this is still the case today. I really like both jackets but I don't know if it is worth paying for a new zipper installation.

https://www.marmot.com/warranty-repair.html I haven't heard of anybody sending Marmot stuff in for repair so I don't know how that goes.

Once they fully recognize and accept that I know the gear, I gain the main authority in the deal.

Patagonia definitely still stands behind their guarantee and will do their best to repair a garment before replacing it. Marmot has always been a little touchier about their guarantee and don't seem to be as strong of company as they once were. I've also read they send their repairs to Rainy Pass so your garment might take a circuitous route.
