I joined some friends yesterday and we partied like it's 1999 midwinter. I skied and they hiked up Amabilis, at Cabin Creek Sno Park. This is an early season favorite, and the earliest I've been there by a month.
The snow is marginal at the bottom, for the first mile or so from the last trail junction. Beyond that point it's been packed down by snowmobiles and there's good skiing on the way down. The very top was soft sticky snow and not great skiing.
The different starting and stopping points reflect the poor snow cover at the bottom. You can avoid scratching your bases at uphill speed but I didn't want to risk them on the way back down with gravity pulling me.
