Holy smokes that’s a lot of closures! So much for my goal of hiking pilchuck with my oldest this summer. Guess we’ll have to wait until 2024.

Boardman/Ashland road has been so bad the last few years not many can get there anyway; so the loss there is an old one - yet good news on that - hopefully the plan involves fixing that road. Having only found out relatively recently how awesome the Ashland Lakes area is, I have missed it! The other trails - the closures aren't too long!

That will be good if they fix some of the roads, maybe take some pressure off lake22…maybe. They did a pretty good job on the deer creek road except for one spot which is kinda good because it keeps a lot of people out. Ashland lakes is a nice hike so hope they fix that one, although I have no interest of going there since the fishing is no longer any good, due to moss and I suspect beaver damming.

That's alot of road and trail work being undertaken in one season. I wonder where the funding came from and whether it will continue even if there is a debt ceiling standoff / federal government shutdown this summer.

Pilchuck is the only real hit. The others will be open by the start of summer or not even start until September.

According to the map the Pilchuck road will be closed at the Heather lake gate-TH from May 1st on...I hope they plan to also address the road issues prior to that as it's worse before the gate than beyond.

I wonder if the Pilchuck road will be open to bikes on the weekend. I'd guess no if they're actively working on road construction, but a guy can dream!

re: road - Some of the potholes are so large and filled with water that I've seen whitecaps on them !

Did they ever fix the Sunrise Mine road? Last time I was up there (before the missing hiker debacle) the road at one of the curves was collapsing. I can't imagine what they're up to at Big Four, unless it has to do with the bridge. That's one of the better maintained high-use trails in the area. And if they're just doing trail work, why close the picnic area?

The big washout got fixed, but there's another sizeable rut just before the trailhead - good clearance can get over it, but there were some Prius-adjacent cars that parked before it last year.

The Big 4 bridge was replaced last fall. This year I believe they are repairing the boardwalk. The picnic area is likely needed to stage materials.

Or perhaps putting in a new latrine since some idiots blew it up several years ago. What's with people?
