RIP. Anyone who hasnt read his west ridge book should... one of the best mountaineering books out there.

I never spoke with him but did guide a year or two with his son @ MM. I spoke to Lowell and he said he never interviewed Tom Hornbein, but I know Lowell, Mark Bebie and I did the first half of the SW face of Early Morning Spire pioneered by he and Dick Emerson. At the mid-point we worked right to avoid the upper chimney. This is probably one of the best two or three routes in the greater Eldorado-Cascade Pass area. With his educational emphasis and climbing life, Hornbein's life was one well lived.
