Has anyone hiked to the Hidden Lake Lookout already this season? Looking to hike it this weekend, bringing crampons and skis/skins. NPS states that the road is closed, but I thought I’d see if anyone has made it to the trailhead this season with their vehicle, or how far up you can make it.
Any current avalanche conditions would be appreciated too if anyone has been up very recently. Is the big cornice still prevalent? Any wet slabs already broken?
Thanks!
The summer trail travels through high avalanche potential terrain in upper Sibley creek. There is a rib that leaves the road at 3000 ft that avoids that exposure. Remote sensing indicates that is already melted out below 4400. Following the summer trail until it crosses Sibley creek , but then heading SE through the forest instead of crossing the creek will avoid exposure to those high potential avalanche slopes. There is a very nice ski run NE from the Summit (not the lookout) down to a lake at 5800. The ski run from the lookout down to Hidden Lake is also good, but less wide open and more subject to debris falling from either side.
